Kegel or pelvic floor cones/weights can be used to:
- Progress your pelvic floor muscle training program
- Provide biofeedback so you know you are doing your pelvic floor exercises correctly – if you aren’t then the cones won’t stay in
- Help teach you how to co-ordinate pelvic floor muscle contractions with breathing – this is often the missing part of a pelvic floor strengthening program
Conditions that may benefit from using kegel or pelvic floor cones/ weights:
- Pelvic floor muscle weakness
- Poor bladder control – stress incontinence or urinary incontinence, little leaks with sneezing, coughing, running
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Returning to higher forms of exercise – e.g. running and experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction when attempting to return.
- Improving sexual sensation When NOT to use pelvic floor or kegel cones/weights:
- If you have any type of pelvic pain – pain with using bladder or bowel; sexual pain; period pain etc. – this needs to be treated first
- If you have a vaginal or urinary tract infection
- If you do not have a prescriptive pelvic floor muscle training program and Kegel weights program
